6. Ano Hana



Okay, full disclosure here: I've only seen the first four episodes of Ano Hana. (No spoilers please!) So why do I consider myself part of the fandom? Well, you have to understand, it's super unusual for me to watch an anime on my own. Each episode is a fixed time commitment, and I can't do something else at the same time because I have to be reading the subtitles, so most of the time I can't justify it to myself. So the fact that I've sought out four whole episodes of Ano Hana (during the school year, even!) means this is something I'm definitely sticking with. :B

And that said, what I have seen is really, really good. As will surprise no one, I am absolutely in love with the characters. First it was their designs (I want to draw all of them, especially Jintan when he has that dumb ponytail), then their nicknames (they all have 'em, they're all adorable), and then, as I came to know them, their personalities (jkjldfajlhfl). Ano Hana also has a really great atmosphere; it's basically Summer: The Show. And as for the storyline, what I've seen so far has been ultimately very sweet and heartwarming. The episode where they play Pokémon Nokémon? Adorable. dshknkv I've been told I'm in for some tears when I finish this show, which I don't doubt. I can't wait. ♥

Also it has an incredibly pretty theme song, which for reasons known only to itself is nowhere to be found on YouTube, so have a tumblr link. It's worth listening to.

Favorite character: Poppo comes close to being a perfect human being. He's a big guy who's super cute, a giant dork who manages to make being a giant dork cool, unquestioningly credulous and endearingly childish, and the dude loves his friends even when he hasn't seen them in years. Also, who else do you know who dropped out of elementary/middle school to go travel the world by himself? Tetsudo Hisakawa does what he wants. And he's awesome.

Endgame predictions: Jintan/Anaru (95% sure), Yukiatsu/Tsuruko (75% sure), Menma/no one because she's dead (99% sure), and Poppo/no one because the big goofy dude never gets with anyone, and also because he doesn't seem much interested in romance. I hope I am wrong about at least some of these, though. And if anyone is aware of the existence of any Poppo/Jintan fic or doujin, well, I'd read it. :B
